How do I know hit-air vests work?

Thinking back, I believe it was 9 or 10 years ag0. I’m remembering because I had a young horse fall on me in Oct. and then rode Pickle in a 30 mile limited distance ride end of Nov. I was still sore, and then I attended some of the USEA Instructor Certification Program (ICP) stuff in Dec and I was still sore when i tried to sleep in a cot generously offered by Connie Arthur as the ICP stuff was at LoneTree.

It was a little brown arab gelding I had in training and it was his first or second canter in the arena. We had gotten new footing and everything was all harrowed. Young horses often canter quickly as they aren’t balanced with our weight. He was cantering to the left, and just fell over sideways. No tripping, no warning. It was like he expected  ground and there was none. Wham, i got slapped to the ground like a fly swatter he didn’t quite roll all the way over but he pinned my right leg so i couldn’t fall clear. My cantle and my fork (I was in a western saddle) were scrapped in the sand. My husband saw the whole thing.  At first I couldn’t breath, but then i felt like I was being stabbed when i did breath, or move, or jiggle in the golf cart, or walk up the house steps.  I remember most it hurt for the longest time and I couldnt’ work for at least a week.

That fall 10 years ago, I landed then on my right side. I was gurgling inside when i breathed, but i wasn’t spitting up any blood so I didn’t go to the doctor. There is nothing they do for broken ribs anyway. I can’t remember how many MONTHS before I could cough or laugh without hurting, like I said it seemed like forever.

After my fall yesterday, I’m sore but I mucked, I did house work, I swept the deck, I vacuumed out the trailer tack room, just alot of easy-on-my-left-chest stuff. I even started my search online for some extreme sport perscription  glass frames; the bridge of my nose is sore where the glasses cut into it.
